Steve mcniven civil war7/6/2023 ![]() Peter barely escapes with his life thanks to last minute aid by The Punisher, and later makes a public reformation on his support of the Superhero Registration Act and exposes the many atrocities being carried out due to its enforcement. In addition, Millar has reunited with Civil War artist Steve McNiven in both the pages of Wolverine and their creator-owned book Nemesis. Peter is outraged by this overreach and immediately protests this. During his attempt to flee with Mary Jane and Aunt May, Iron Man attacks him and sends several “reformed” villains to capture the Wall-Crawler. Kick-A, a Marvel Icon project done in tandem with John Romita Jr., made an impressive impact on the sales chart before also being adapted for a major motion picture. Not only was this imprisonment illegal but Prison 42 was located within the Negative Zone, a life draining alien universe composed entirely of anti-matter where time moves faster than on Earth. When Peter joins Tony on a visit to Prison 42, the faculty designed to hold their super-human prisoners, he discovers that many of the imprisoned are being held without trial or access to a lawyer. ![]() ![]() Stark gives Spider-Man a brand new Iron Spider suit in exchange for his allegiance, secretly placing a number of tracking devices and controls into the armor. ![]() Stark’s most villainous act is also his most Shakespearean as he plays his relationship with Peter Parker against the Web-Slinger, convincing Peter to reveal his identity as Spider-Man in a live press conference. ![]()

A lair of bones helen scheuerer7/6/2023 ![]() In this book, we meet Cyren, a powerful species that rules Saddoriel's ancient lair, a labyrinthine fortress powered by magic and music. ![]() You can find more of my reviews & fun content on my blog A Book. ![]() It's a story that plays a lot with the morals of this society, it has an exceptional world construction, and I adore the main character. I'm not the biggest fan of sirens as such, but in this book, this mythological creature has a very unique and interesting twist that hooked me a lot I also liked The Tournament the book focuses on and how this factor is used. This book is extraordinary, a beginning of a series that will surely be of high impact I'm not even surprised that I've enjoyed it so much because I've already read the author in the past and I've loved it too, so I already had an idea that this book would be just as addictive as her previous books and I wasn't mistaken. ![]()

These broken stars by amie kaufman7/6/2023 ![]() ![]() I’m almost done for the night, smiling for the cameras as ordered. Nobody will miss one, and I need a dose of reality. ![]() ![]() Chosen for the richness of their leather bindings, not for the contents of their pages. Nobody here reads them the books are for decoration. I reach behind me and let my fingers trail over the rough leather of their antique spines, then pull one free. I’m leaning against the bookshelves when it occurs to me that one thing here is real-the books. The Icarus, passing through dimensional hyperspace, would look just as faded, half-transparent, if someone stationary in the universe could somehow see her moving faster than light. Outside the viewports, the stars are like faded white lines, half-invisible, surreal. I’d give anything for a laid-back evening joking around with my platoon, instead of being stuck here in this imitation scene from a historical novel.įor all their trendy Victorian tricks, there’s no hiding where we are. The string quartet is only a hologram-perfect and infallible, and exactly the same at every performance. Hover trays weave among the guests, like invisible waiters are carrying drinks. The candles in the sconces do flicker, but they’re powered by a steady source. People would be listening to each other, instead of checking to see who’s watching them.Įven the air here smells filtered and fake. Candles and soft lamps would light the room, and the wooden tables would be made of actual trees. If this were a party at home, the music would draw your eye to human musicians in the corner. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Then the second main way is the level II multiverse and so on till we get to the level IV multiverse.īut fear not: Max Tegmark is not only a gifted and distinguished cosmologist. So he calls the first main way it is bigger - the first main way he wants to surprise and unsettle you - the level I multiverse. Each represents such a vast extension of what we usually call the cosmos (or Universe) that he suggests we should use the word multiverse for these extensions. Tegmark argues that it is bigger and stranger in four main ways, each one building on the last. Indeed, it is bigger and stranger in ways you probably have not thought about - even though you are a reader of Plus, and so of course both very clever and very imaginative! The message of this book is that the cosmos is much bigger, and much stranger, than you might have thought. ![]() Our mathematical Universe: My quest for the ultimate nature of reality by Max Tegmark ![]()

Sula toni morrison book7/6/2023 ![]() I don’t remember seeing her very much, but what I do remember is the color around her-a kind of violet, a suffusion of something violet-and her eyes, which appeared to be half closed. Her name was Hannah, and I think she was a friend of my mother’s. I began to write my second book, which was called Sula, because of my preoccupation with a picture of a woman and the way in which I heard her name pronounced. Morrison saw Sula in someone, too, before she wrote her: I’ve seen Sula in my days, in my sisters, my aunts, my friends, a stranger crossing the road. Sula is incomparable, matchless, singular. She’s the kind of woman about whom you start to say “she’s the kind of woman…” even though you know any words that follow will twist like winter leaves before they hit the air, will fall to the ground, dry and dead wrong. She is, of course, a type, but she is the type of person who exceeds typology. Sula always seems to me to name a person, not an idea. There are other proper names in Morrison’s titles-Solomon, Tar Baby, Beloved-but they do not wear their allegory so lightly. That’s what always strikes a space between my breasts whenever I think of Toni Morrison’s second novel, published in 1973, and my favorite of her oeuvre. ![]()

A very punchable face7/5/2023 ![]() ![]() This recognition is valuable in connecting with readers who may be skeptical of his awareness. Jost writes of himself, but also knows his place. ![]() As a person of privilege, he inherently stands apart from many disadvantaged groups, and lays this out point-blank. The truth of the matter is that Jost is white, male and of affluent upbringing. In the introduction, he speaks on his heritage and comically points out that “it’s never a good sign when your German side is the less repressed one.” The memoir is understandably about Jost, but he goes about his centrality very carefully. ![]() His memoir “A Very Punchable Face,” released July 14, is composed of essays on formative - and, of course, humorous - life experiences. Most recently, Jost has also become an author. Colin Jost has been a writer for “Saturday Night Live” since 2005 and co-anchor for the variety show’s “Weekend Update” since 2014. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is a reprint of an early edition printed in London. James’ biographers, John Campbell, declared that The Anxious Inquirer is immeasurably superior to Richard Baxter’s A Call to the Unconverted and Philip Doddridge’s Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul-both enduring classics in their own right. ![]() This book was tremendously popular in its day, going through six editions in its first year and selling over half a million copies overall. The reader is also offered much practical advice on dealing with common mistakes, perplexities and discouragements encountered by those seeking salvation.Īlthough written primarily for those who have been awakened to their need of a Savior, The Anxious Inquirer can be read with profit by anyone, including those who have been churchgoers for many years, and especially those who are called upon to counsel people who are anxious about their soul’s salvation. Biblical repentance and saving faith are clearly explained. The author skillfully guides the seeking soul to the one and only source of salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ and his finished work on the cross. As immortal spirits destined for eternal bliss or everlasting misery, no question is more important than “What must I do to be saved?” This book answers that question in classic fashion. Deep anxiety about salvation is the most reasonable thing in the world. ![]()
